Setting the Pace

The Liberty North girls cross country team sets the pace for their season this year, making bigger and better strides than their previous season. This pace has led them to Fox 4 News’ team of the week award.
This award was not only a surprise to the girls, but an example of their hard work and dedication. Many members of the team were thrilled when they learned that they not only won an award, but got to be on TV as well.
“It felt so good winning the award. We knew we worked hard to win it but we didn’t think it was possible. It was a total shocker.” Sophomore Sammy Laurenzo said.
The team has improved tremendously since last year, winning first at the Rim Rock Invitational,  where they only received  32nd in the previous season. To the girls this is not surprising.
“We’re more competitive at practice and really try to push each other. We’ve been working really hard and we’ve been doing really well at the meets. We have won three out of four meets and Kearney is the only school that has beat us.” Junior Selena Dunn said.
Being the team of the week will not only recognize the girls and show off their hard work, but will motivate the girls to keep doing their best. This award could also raise the confidence level and show them just how good they are.
“This award definitely boosted our confidence. It helps me work harder, and it makes me want to do better.” Laurenzo said.
To watch the girls receive their award tune into Fox 4 News at ten on Thursday, September 29.
