Road to State

The Liberty North baseball team  is 8-1 so far this season. Previously this weekend they went on the road to Columbia where they defeated Columbia Rock Bridge 13-4 and Battle High School 11-1. Tyler Funk pitched 6 strong innings against Rock Bridge to get the win, while the offense was led by Andrew Vogelbaugh who hit his third homerun of the year and also had 3 hits with 5 RBI’s. The second game against Battle the Eagles were led by Brian Sharp on the mound; he went 4 strong innings on the before Luke Small and Neil Thomas came in to finish the game. Colin Flanagan and Brady Kaplan led the team offensively each with 2 hits and Flanagan with his first homerun of the season. The Eagles defense played 14 straight innings with no errors.

The team hopes to be able to make a run for state this year being ranked 6th in the state.

“This season is going just as good as hoped, we are hitting the cover off the ball, getting lots of base runners, and scoring lots of runs. Our pitching and defense has been pretty good too. We haven’t had that one sloppy game yet. We are doing everything fundamentally right and if we keep this up, we should have a great season. Facing good competition early in the year like we have done is great and will only make us better in the long run. We have a very experienced group and have a good chance at making a run for state,” senior Andrew Vogelbaugh said.

The Eagles have to continue to keep working. The season will continue to get tougher.

“As a whole they are playing great team baseball. The guys are playing the game hard and smart. We are off to a great start, but need to continue to get better each day. By the end of the year I expect them to be playing their best baseball,” Coach Stegall said.
