North Soccer Advances to Sectionals

District Champs is ringing in the Liberty North Soccer teams ears as they beat Excelsior Springs 1-0 last week. North played tough and fought hard but could not find a gap in Excelsior’s defense and went into the half tied. The Eagles kept pressing in the second half and their break came late when Nat Davis broke the tie with five minutes left pushing the Eagles to victory. With the win, North improved to 24-4 on the season.

With the win, North books a spot to play Smithville in the “Sweet Sixteen” on Tuesday, November 12. North faced off against Smithville earlier in the season, but fell short in double overtime to lose by the score of 4-3.

“We are more prepared this time around for their athleticism and style which we have been preparing for this week. Based on the last result, we also feel the need and the desire to beat them this time,” Senior Alex Pohl said.

Since the Smithville loss, the Eagles have gone 9-1 and seem to be getting into a rhythm at the right time.

“We have moved a lot of players around to different positions to try to spark goal scoring and efficiency which we were lacking at the beginning of the season. Our coach has been trying different formations which seem to be help the team score and help the team win,” Pohl said. T

he Eagles are hoping to keep their rhythm going and keep winning.
