North Nation comes out to support the basketball boys in their first game of the District Tournament!

Last night was the first game of the Liberty North boys basketball district tournament, vs Winnetonka. The boys played a pretty even, hard fought game throughout all four quarters. By the end of regulation, both teams were tied at 40. Our student section was full(-er than I expected) and had decent energy. The boys kept us on our toes as they were trailing behind for the majority of the game. With 4:00 left in the fourth quarter, Michael Wansing hit a shot to tie the game, and the crowd exploded. After a few more baskets, both teams ended up at 40 and Coach McCabe called a timeout with 12 seconds left. Whatever he drew up for the team to run didn’t work out, because they called another timeout right after the ball was inbounded – or that could’ve been the original plan, but it didn’t seem like it. Anyway, the second play they drew up didn’t go as planned and it was still tied when the last buzzer sounded. Overtime, here we come – (keep in mind if we lose this game, it’s the end of the season. But if we win we move onto the championship against Liberty).

We totally dominated overtime; Tonka didn’t score one basket! I think its because almost every shot they took Michael Hughes came out of no where and swatted it. We knew it was over when they started to foul with a few minutes left. The boys drained every free throw making the final score 53-40.

Now that we have squeaked out this game, the boys AND the fans need to show up when we play in the championship. They will play Liberty tomorrow, Saturday the 7th, at 6pm in the North Kansas City gym. It is expected to fill up fairly quickly (especially considering the size of North Nation), there is no game before, so the doors should open around 4:30 ish. The theme is gold rush! There will be a tailgate and caravan in the LNHS parking lot before. For more info stay tuned to our twitter account @LN_EaglesView and the sports marketing account @LNHSports. BEAT LIBERTY!
