Mizzou Heads to the SEC

Missouri Tiger’s Faurot Field, Kansas Jayhawk’s Memorial Stadium, two stadiums in college football  that display diehard fans that are loud and proud every game. Whether a fan is to cheer “Miz- Zou”! Or that of “Rock Chalk”! When these teams gather at their respective stadiums for the Border Showdown, fans grow wild with raging support for their team. But wait? A hole in the wall, a needle in the haystack, a fork in the spoons, what is out of place in this famous rivalry? As hard as it may be for many fans of Missouri, or even Kansas to believe, University of Missouri will have to find a new rival in the SEC division. After weeks of negations held between the University of Missouri and the SEC, acceptance has finally been granted. As of July 1, 2012 Missouri will be an official member of this division in college football.

“I am really excited to see how Mizzou does in the new division. I am excited to see how the season goes. I think MU will do well in their new division,” Junior Kaitlin Windsor said.

Missouri will now face such well known schools as; the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Florida Gators, and the Georgia Bulldogs to name a few. Local Missouri fans, like those here in Kansas City, will have to become accustomed to new forms of competition for their team. When they tune in to watch their Tigers play, many new matchups will come about each and every week.

“I feel like people are too attached to traditions. New competition will bring about a different playing style that will test the program as a whole. I honestly don’t see anything wrong with that,” Senior Kyle Monize said.
Whether a supporter of this happening or not, Missouri will no longer be a part of the Big 12 once the 2011-2012 season finally comes to a close. There are a lot of strong opinions on this hot topic, though one thing is for sure. The SEC may have to look out for their latest addition to the conference, because the Missouri Tiger’s have a new home.
