Inaugural Sophomore Football Game

The first ever sophomore football team played Lee’s Summit West on Thursday August 30, 2012. For Liberty North, this is a milestone for the Eagle’s sports. For the past two years, North has only had a Freshman, JV, and Varsity football teams. With the football program growing rapidly there was a need for another team: creating the sophomore team.

“From last year to this year, the practices are harder and you can not hold anything back. There is no walking and it is more fast pace,” sophomore Bryce Reeves said. Coming from the Freshman team last year, coaches are trying to build off of the players individual strengths.

“We practice a lot and we find each player the position they play best. We switch things up a ton,” Reeves said.

The game last night proved difficult for the Eagles. With equal matched skills, but penalties, fumbles, and injuries stacked against them; they unfortunately lost 35-0. The sophomore team was not discouraged and looked on the bright side.

“We are going to improve by working hard and playing hard each day,” Reeves said.

Most of the players do not worry about how the end games, as long as they gave it their all.

“Being part of the sophomore team is fun because I get to play football and I get to hit people,” Reeves said.

With three more seasons together to go, the sophomore Eagles have a chance to come together and improve their program. They are planning to keep practicing and get ready for this season’s upcoming games. The sophomore team will get the chance to prove themselves once more at home on September 6, 2012 against Staley’s sophomore team.
