Girls rugby wins state championship

The Liberty girls’ rugby team won state against the Dragons on Thursday, October 18. The rugby team started about three years ago, and players are from both Liberty and Liberty North. Sophomore Jazmine Mosley scored a total of 3 times in the game.

“The ride to the game I was pretty nervous. But once I got there, I started warming up I let everything that happened before the game disappear from my head, and started to focus on what I needed to do,”  Mosley said.

During the game, it was back and forth.  At the half, the score was Liberty United 14 KC Dragons 10 Eventually Liberty broke away and the final score was 40 to 15.

“It was the one of the best feelings in the world. But I wouldn’t have scored if it wasn’t for my teammates always being there for my support. The adrenaline rush after scoring made me not feel the pain in my legs until later. Even though I scored I was a good sport and played as if the score was still 0-0,” Mosley said.

Junior Claire DeVry is also from Liberty North; she has been on the team since it first started and she has seen their progress.

“I was so excited and happy, and after three seasons of hard work, and learning from our losses we had finally won the title that we deserved. In the future I think that we definately need to keep working hard and growing as individual players and as a team. Hopefully we will finish next season with another state championship,” DeVry said.
