Girl’s Basketball Recap

As March Madness, the pinnacle of College basketball begins, high school basketball starts to come to a close. After a season full of injuries, hard fought games, and intense victories, the Women’s Eagles basketball season ends.

“It was a rough but successful season. We had to deal with a lot of injuries, and girls being able to play one day and then out for 2 weeks the next,” junior Kailee Knudsen said.

The girls played a number of close games, some they came out on top and others they fell just short of a win.

“We played a lot of really close games. Even when we were way behind, we found a way to come back and keep the score reasonable. We made games interesting even when we played teams that were better than us,” junior Annie Woody said.

This year for the first time, the Eagles beat Kearney. They have played many times over the years, but this is the first time the Eagles came out on top.

“Beating Kearney was really exciting. They have been better than us in past years, and it isn’t usually a very close game. So to play them that closely and come out on top was a big accomplishment for us,” Knudsen said.

Although the girls lose 4 seniors who were key components of the game, the Eagles are still looking forward to next year and improving off this year.

“Our seniors really lead this team. They were a huge part of our team, and losing them is going to hurt. But, we bring back a lot of really good players, and we’ll have another strong senior class next year. We’re hoping to keep improving and be better next year,” sophomore Destiny Ojigoh.

The season came to a close on Tuesday March 3rd, against North Kansas City in the first round of districts. The girls fought hard all game long, but their playoff run was cut short in a 36-47 loss against the Hornets.
