With football season starting, that means Friday night football games have begun. Many students look forward to the fun environment of cheering and watching the game at the end of the week.
“My favorite part about a football game is to watch the game and to feel the energy the student section brings,” freshman Chase Flener said.
Most of the student sections’ cheering and spirit comes from the Navy, a group of students who help to hype up the crowd. The energy of the student section is part of what makes a football game fun and exciting.
“We try to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved. We love to provide our student body with multiple opportunities to get involved with our student section, such as dressing for themes, early access opportunities, and different activities,” senior Evelyn Hensley said.
When the crowd gets involved in the chants and themes for a game, it can build the environment of the game, encouraging more people to participate.
“A touchdown, interception, big tackle, or any ‘big plays’ always get the crowd hyped and juiced up, and make them get excited for more. Some things I do to get myself and others excited for football games would be encouraging them to go to the games and go all out,” junior Yurem Garcia said.
Some students spread the word of the fun themes for a football game on social media, encouraging others to show out.
“I just love how the crowd is always so hype and full of energy. It makes the environment of playing football more in the moment and changes the intensity of the game,” senior Chase Robertson said.
