Expectations for the Wrestling Season

As November rolls around many students think of colder weather, Thanksgiving, food, and Christmas. For a small group of Liberty North students though, all they are thinking about is wrestling and reaching whatever weight class they will have the most success at, one wrestler gives his opinion on this topic.

“To qualify for state I think the best weight class for me would be to wrestle up a weight class at 170 pounds, but I will have to work harder than I have any other season,” junior Nate Angle said.

Other wrestlers will be affected by graduating seniors from last season and this will be the first time they will be guaranteed a varsity spot for a full season because there is no one else in their weight class.

“With Kane (Hellman) graduating last year I will probably be the one at the 106 pound weight class it’s going to be a little rough I’ll probably get beat up a little bit, but I will probably also beat up on some people, I think I can do it,” sophomore Gage Diggs said.

Some wrestlers had successful seasons last year but struggled at districts to continue on to state at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Those wrestlers hope to have more success at districts this year considering they will be hosted in the Liberty North Field House.

“Last year at districts I struggled because I had one move that I used the most but my opponent knew how to defend it so this year I am working on a variety of more moves to make it to state. As for the rest of the team I think we will have some more people make it to state this year we are strongest in our middle weights,” Senior Asa Brand said.
