Eagles Take Flight, Taking Third

On Saturday, August 25, the Eagles took flight in their first softball game. The girls played at Raymore Peculiar in a season opening tournament. After losing only one senior this past season and seeing five freshman on the varsity roster, many were left wondering what was to come this season. The Eagles left a clear message of what this season holds after taking third in the tournament.

“I was very pleased with the outcome of this weekend’s tournament. The girls all played really hard and we can only go up from here,” Head Coach John Sobbe said.

The Eagles finished the tournament with two wins and two losses, falling into third place with a lose to Pleasant Hill, the runner up of the tournament. The girls also took their first lost of the season to Raymore Peculiar, who took first in the tournament.

“Although we lost two games, we lost to good teams. Both teams took first and second in the tournament, showing us we were right there with them,” Junior Olivia Atkinson said.

The team will now face conference rivals Grandview in the first regular season game on Tuesday. The Eagles will then also play Park Hill South Wednesday and Platte County to follow on Thursday.
