Eagles Cross Country Team Soar Through State Meet

Eagles Cross Country Team Soar Through State Meet

On November 3, 2012 Liberty North’s own boys and girls cross country team competed for the state title in Jefferson City. The boys and girls both faced the toughest competition in the state. Three all-state runners came from the meet: Ty Hughes, Sammy Laurenzo, and Stephanie Boan.

“The meet was much larger than anything we had competed in all year and this time we all knew that it was for a much larger reward,” Hughes said.

The girls team took 7th overall, with Laurenzo finishing in 7th, Boan in 17th, and Jamie Thon in 72nd. Molly Hertz came in 99th and Laura Haskell finishing in 139th.
“It was surreal feeling to be competing in my last high school meet. Overall I was very pleased with our performance,” senior Molly Hertz said.
The boys team also placed very well, finishing 3rd overall. Hughes finished 8th individually, with Logan Kavanaugh finishing next in 33rd, Austin Casel in 44th, Danny Blackwell in 58th, and John Barry in 65th.
“For us to finish 3rd overall, everyone was so excited. We all performed very well and it showed in our final outcome,” junior Austin Casel said.
Although the Cross Country season has ended, many of the runners will return next year with few seniors on the team, this will allow for personal improvements and hopes for an even better final outcome from both teams next year.
