Boys Basketball Giving Back

The first Ability Camp was held Saturday, February 22nd, by the Liberty North Men’s Basketball team. The camp was hosted to make a connection between the basketball team and their community, and to hopefully start an annual event.

“It provides a good opportunity to get involved with the community. We were always engaged with our own team and teammates, but we’re not necessarily always aware of or interacting with a bigger group of people, so we felt it would be a good group of people for us to interact with and it definitely was.” Assistant Principal and basketball coach, Chris McCabe said.

The players took the role of coaches for the program, and led those involved through a day of various activities to improve playing skills.

“We treated it like any kind of camp, so we worked on ball handling, shooting, passing, and defense. We played games, and did some shooting competitions. It was our player’s turn to be coaches. I thought it was terrific, we taught some things and helped with some skills, but I think we learned just as much as we gave, and our guys did a terrific job of leading and being a part of it. I was really proud of our team.” McCabe said.

Overall, players and coaches were very satisfied with the event. Positive feedback came flooding in from parents, teachers, and the participators. The goal is to see a return of the Ability Camp next year, and start a tradition to continue on for many years.
