The Men’s varsity baseball season has officially begun. They kicked off the year with a win against the Smithville Warriors with a score of six to three in the opening round of the Metro Leadoff Classic tournament. The Eagle’s will move forward to play Park Hill and Oak Park tomorrow at the yard starting at ten in the morning.

“We played really well today compared to our performance in the jamboree. We have a lot to work on but it was a very solid starting point to build off of”, senior Douglas Wood said.

The game began with a first varsity debut from junior Brenner Maloney. He managed to only give up two runs, while the Eagles stood strong behind him producing two runs as well. Junior Jacob Prather came in as a relief in the top of the fourth, only allowing one more run to be scored.

“I was happy to finally get back out there on the mound. I love just being to play with my teammates again and help contribute towards our wins”, Prather said.

Errors in the bottom of the fourth by Smithville allowed for the Eagles to score two more runs going into the top of the fifth inning. Douglas Wood had an RBI in the bottom of the fifth. To finish the game, senior James Perry contributed both offensively and defensively with one run scored and a double to give the boys their sixth run of the game.

“We have our expectations set very high this year. We’ve won three straight district titles and I would really like the fourth one to finish my senior year. The sky’s the limit for this team if we keep putting in the time and work because both talent and coaching is there”, senior James Perry said.
