Wesley McCully is one of North’s amazing math teachers. This year will be his 14th year working at North.
He is described as friendly and patient, and is a talented teacher. But teaching math hasn’t always been his plan.
“When I was younger, I wanted to be an architect, and as I got older, I considered becoming an engineer. Teaching wasn’t something I had considered at the time, but it was actually my wife who suggested the idea, and I’m so glad she did.” McCully said.
But just because he never thought he would become a teacher doesn’t mean he didn’t love math.
“I’ve always had a passion for math; there’s something beautiful about the patterns and puzzles that emerge in the world around us. It’s the challenge of solving problems and seeing the connections that I find fascinating.” McCully said.
McCully wants his students to learn to enjoy math, and to develop important critical thinking skills, but he also knows what is most important.
“More than just learning math, I hope they feel they can trust me and come to me with anything, not just related to academics. Ultimately, I want them to look back on their time in high school with positive memories.” McCully said.
