While only being a sophomore, Kate Hiser has made sure to be involved in her school. She is involved in Drumline for Band, KNET, Flag Football, FCA, and First Priority. Her involvement in many activities allows her to build strong friendships, grow as a leader, and stay connected to the school community. Some of her reasons for getting involved are the people she’s met who have inspired her.
“When I was in 6th grade, I thought drums were really cool and I wanted to be like some of my friends who I looked up to. I also like all of the friendships that I’ve made and getting closer with others who do band,” Hiser said.
Hiser’s passion for music and the connections she’s built through band have made a positive environment for others, making it easy for people to count on her for help.
“Kate is such a bright light to be around, she has great integrity and is a great role model to not only people in band but to our school community,” sophomore Bella Brown said.
With being involved in so many different things, it can be hard to balance time while also getting work done efficiently, especially when practices, meetings, and schoolwork all take up space in a busy schedule.
“How I balance everything is really just knowing that I can have time to myself and taking breaks while also being involved in everything,” Hiser said.
Hiser’s involvement in various activities can take a lot of time commitment, but she makes sure to do her best to be a leader and create a positive environment.
“Kate is a good leader for our flag football team, and always has an uplifting, positive attitude that helps the team want to get better,” sophomore Kinslee Mendez said.
All of the time and effort she puts into her activities doesn’t just help her stay involved, it also gives her the chance to encourage others and set an example for those around her.
“One of the biggest things I would say is just to be involved in your school because you will be able to make so many new friendships and make a difference in the end,” Hiser said.
