This is Joshua Jones’s second year at North, and he’s known not just for his academic dedication but also for his involvement in school life.
“Here at North, I am involved in Student Council, Interact Club, Orchestra, Choir, Cross Country, Orchestra Leadership Club, and Theater. Outside of school, I also have private voice lessons, private cello lessons, and I attend a 6 am Church class every morning before school,” sophomore Joshua Jones said.
Jones’s schedule varies from others. He wakes up at three to four in the morning to study for school before he goes to his early Church class. Having a busy schedule leaves little time for Jones to study for his 3 AP classes and several Honors classes. Yet he always finds time to give his best effort.
“Josh is an outstanding student who always strives to do his best. He seems to genuinely enjoy learning. In the classroom, Joshua is an asset to the class who is always willing to help his peers, and is looked to as a leader,” Social Studies teacher Kurt Gates said.
Transitioning between schoolwork, extracurriculars, and personal commitments requires a lot of self-discipline, which Jones does his best to instill.
“It really comes down to priorities and doing the stuff that’s most important to me first and then going from there. Time management can be really hard some days when I don’t have very much time to do homework or leisure activities,” Jones said.
Despite his busy life, Jones doesn’t lose sight of what matters most, which is kindness and positivity. Jones’s ability to balance leadership and warmth makes him stand out among his peers. His drive to improve himself while uplifting those around him shows that success isn’t just about achievement but also about character.
“While Joshua is very hardworking, he is also very kind, smart, joyful, and very entertaining to be around,” sophomore Bridget Mackenzie said.
As Jones continues to get busier through his high school career, he has found a way to relieve some of the built-up stress he has.
“My favorite activities are definitely choir and orchestra because I really enjoy listening to and playing music. It has always been a way for me to escape my busy life and relax,” Jones said.
