Defending the Title

Golden Girls

Defending+the+Title

After a blissful State Championship last year the Golden Girls just barely fell short. The team competed this past weekend at Kemper Arena for Missouri High Schools State Dance Competition. The Golden Girls took a hard hit losing Eight Seniors last year, but they stepped it up even with a young team and fought hard to defend last years title. The team performed in Division 4 with a Jazz and Hip Hop routine, along with two solo performances by Malorie Colby and Alaina Lee.

“Performing a solo at state was so much fun because I got to show my own personality and movement, but performing with my team was an amazing feeling because we all worked so hard and worked together as one and when we came off the floor we knew that was the best we’d done,” junior Malorie Colby said.

Colby placed 3rd in her solo performance, and Lee finished with 2nd place.

“The last couple weeks before state we really came back ready to work. There was just a whole new team and so much effort came out. We practiced harder than ever. It’s kind of weird but we always say ‘GG Strong’ and that is truly what our team became. Our effort at the end was so strong and it really bonded us together, senior Lindsay Marvine said.

The Golden Girls placed 2nd in Division 4 Hip Hop and 4th place in Division 4 Jazz, and ended with a 2nd place finish overall.

“I am really going to miss the Golden Girls because that’s all I’ve ever know throughout high school. We’re all so close. I am excited to see where they go in the years to come. There is so much talent on that team, and I am anxious to come back and see everything from the other side,” Marvine said.
