Liberty North Junior Varsity Softball Team Makes an Impressive Debut

The Liberty North Junior Varsity team kicked off the 2015 season with an exciting 2nd place win at the Lee’s Summit Tournament at Legacy Park. The Junior Varsity team started off the tournament with two wins on Monday against Truman and Lee’s Summit West high school which comfortably placed them in the highest bracket for the tournament.

“My favorite moment of the tournament was winning our first game,” Freshman, Sydney Goss said.

On Tuesday, they kept the winning streak going and came out with a 7-3 win against Ray Pec high school which put them in the spot for the semi-finals on Wednesday. The next day, the JV team came ready to play a tough game against Lee’s Summit high school. After the first inning, the Eagles were down 2-0. Down by two runs, the Eagles scored two more on an error to tie up the game, making it 2-2. Eagles scored two more runs in the sixth to make the score 4-2. Things started heating up when the Tigers came back and scored two more runs to tie up the game just as time expired, causing the game to go into ITB. The next inning, the Eagles pulled through and scored one more run to keep the game going. In the 7th, the pressure was on for the Eagles with a runner on second and two outs, when 3rd baseman, Bri Holdshoe got the final out with a throw to first to win the game 5-4 and advance the Eagles on to the Championship game.

“I felt pressure during the game, but I knew all we had to do was make the routine plays and stay calm to pull out a win,” Junior, Bri Holdshoe said.

When moving on to the championship, the Eagles played a tough game, but took a disappointing loss, losing to Blue Springs South high school 5-1. The Eagles ended up coming home with a well-earned second place win to set an impressive mark for the rest of the season.

“I expect our season to be very exciting. We have a lot of power and a ton of talent. We have a great group who is motivated to compete, improve and succeed. As long as we continue to expand our skill set, remain positive and stay healthy, we will have a stellar season,” Coach Julia Gannon said.
