Socktoberfest

Key Club is known for their volunteer work, and how much they help and inform the community about subjects like homeless teens and many other things. This club has big goals that they want to achieve this year.

“Our biggest goals this year is to build our membership and successfully complete some integral service projects.  This year, our primary project is to build a Necessities Closet that will be housed here at Liberty North,” Katherine Mitchell said.

Key Club is focused on helping out people in need within the community. It is their mission to help people who don’t have the necessities that most take for granted. Each student involved in Key Club has to reach the clubs set requirements.

“We volunteer for a variety of different events and causes. Every Key Club member is required to give 50 hours of community service over the course of the year.  That service can be through events that Key Club hosts (Socktober, Bundle Up Birds, Adopt-a-Family, etc.) or service opportunities in the community (bell ringing, serving meals, Hillcrest Thrift Store, etc.),” Ms. Mitchell said.

As a group, Key Club has set the standard for themselves of creating a necessities closet for the families here at Liberty North. Key Club is asking students at North to help them reach their goal, to set up a necessities closet with socks for families who need them but can’t afford them.

“Socktober is a nationwide service project to collect socks for those in need.  Our goal is to collect a minimum of 100 socks.  These socks will then be stored in our Necessities Closet and delivered to Liberty Public School families who may need them. Socktoberfest starts next week on October 19th through the 23rd, and we are asking everyone to bring in what they can. First hour classes will compete for sock collection totals, and prizes will be awarded to the winning classes.  We’ve been lucky to have some generous donors who have provided Dairy Queen and Sonic vouchers, cookies, and even a Wing Party from Buffalo Wild Wings!” Ms. Mitchell said.
