This past weekend, the Liberty North Speech and Debate team had the opportunity to showcase their talent at their first overnight tournament of the year at Kickapoo high school in Springfield, Missouri. The team got 4th place out of 29 schools with many individual placings.

“This was my first time at a Varsity tournament since I was a Novice last year, and it was really fun. It’s nice to be at the Varsity level and compete with a lot of different debaters. I’m very happy with how our team did this weekend,” sophomore, Erin Stevens said.

All of the individual placings include:

Noah Grahm – 6th place Program Oral Interpretation

Michael Chapman – 3rd place Program Oral Interpretation

Thadeus Acha – 1st place Program Oral Interpreation

Kinsey Collins – 2nd place Humorous Interpretation

Bryn Ramos – 3rd place Informative Speaking

Paige Niceaner – 4th place Original Oratory

Sadik Mohammad – 5th place Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking

Selma Khalil/Bryn Ramos and Sadik Mohammad/Abby Keller – co-champions Policy debate

“I was able to get two trophies this weekend, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. As a senior, I’m very excited for what the rest of the year has to offer, and I have a good feeling that our team will do really well this year,” senior Bryn Ramos said.

This Friday and Saturday the team will take on their 2nd tournament at Parkhill high school.  This weekend will determine how well the team can compete with more local competition. Good luck to everyone!

“I will be at Parkhill this weekend, and I’m hoping my success continues this weekend just as it did for Kickapoo. I’m very excitied for this year to get going, and I have high expectations for the entire team,” junior Sadik Mohammad said.
