Liberty North Thespians

November 1, 2019

Liberty North’s Theatre department is known for the shows they put on, but there is so much that goes on behind the scenes to make these shows a reality. From backstage managers to Costume designers, there’s a spot for everyone.

“We do a variety of service projects throughout the year. We focus a lot on supporting the younger theatre students by helping out at the middle schools and seeing their shows. We also help at arts immersion days where students go to elementary schools and teach 4th graders about improv, theatre dance, readers theatre, and other topics,” Thespian President Hannah Samson said.

A Thespian is considered anyone who is an actor or an actress, but the club here at Liberty North goes out of its way to include everyone who is interested or involved in any kind of theatre. The students that are in a show or production only do work regarding the show. Being in Thespians is very similar to being in a drama club, they do service projects, arts immersion days, and host parties for the members of the club.

“The name Thespians actually comes from the first greek actor Thespis. If you’re in the National Tespian’s society, you’re a student of theatre and study not only on stage but backstage as well,” Sampson said.

The Thespian troop here at Liberty North is troop number 8021 and this year, and the Thespian leadership is focusing on community involvement rather than just hosting service projects.

“I love being president because I love mentoring people and being able to help those involved in our department. It’s pretty empowering knowing that if someone is confused about something in theatre then more often than not I will have the answer,” Sampson said.
