Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Play Comes to North!

Liberty North’s thespians are preparing for a supercalifragilistic performance of Mary Poppins. Fifty-nine students are in the cast of Mary Poppins and have been rehearsing since the beginning of September.

“I am most excited for the last week of the show, show week, because those are the times we make the most memories, and it goes by so fast but those are the weeks that you remember,” sophomore Regan McKay said.

Mary Poppins is a story about a whimsical nanny to two children, Jane and Michael, embarking on a series of fantastical adventures. The show is the 17th, 18th, and 19th of November at 7:00 in the liberty north performing arts theater. There are many characters on stage to fall in love with but also people backstage that pull the whole show together.

“For sound it’s fun when you get to see the show and how it plays out on stage, whereas backstage you get to see what goes on behind the scenes and you get to see all the actors,”   sophomore Ben Madrigal said.

Madrigal and sophomore partner Ben Varnell work lights and sound for the musical. Both students have worked on more than 5 shows.

“My favorite part on working on the musical is mainly just the connections you make with people and co-workers and just enjoying the times creating the show,” Varnell said.

Whilst actors are on stage the backstage crew are backstage, above, and in front of the stage, working spotlight, moving sets, and controlling the mics and soundboard. Tech week is when all the technical levels are added and the show begins to form what it will be on the actual performance night.

“Having to stop and start and stop and start can get really tiring especially during tech week where there is a lot of different elements being put into the show, so the acting had already been rehearsed and worn. When you’re adding all these new tech elements, especially with this show which is really techy, it can get really tiring because all you want to do is go on but you have to wait till they’re done,” McKay said.

On the 17th, 18th, and 19th of November come and support the liberty north actors in their production of Mary Poppins.

“It’s gonna be a great show,” Varnell said.
