The Liberty North Orchestra prepares for their October Concert

Since the beginning of the school year, our orchestra has been practicing in preparation for their first concert this school year.

“We have been working all semester on various pieces for this concert and working ahead towards our December concert, but we have been focusing on technique to incorporate into the pieces that we are performing for the October concert,” fine arts teacher Lynnita Harris said.

Our orchestra is split into four levels; Freshman, Concert, Symphonic, and Chamber. Each orchestra is preparing a different set of music to perform at their concert.

“We are going to prepare for the concert by practicing three different pieces. We work very hard on them and nitpick each measure that we perform,” senior Monroe Pruett said.

After perfecting each piece, they have the opportunity to perform on the stage in late October.

“The October concert is pretty casual. We don’t have to dress up or anything, like we do during the rest of the year. And we have a costume contest, so that’s pretty fun,” sophomore Abby Keller said.

The costume contest is one feature of this concert that sets it apart from the other concerts. Dressing in costume is encouraged for the players and the best costumes get a reward.

“Prizes are given to the winner and runner up of each of the orchestras. We usually have Dr. Jacobs, Mr. Money, and Mr. Stanley as our judges for the costume contest,” Harris said.

The concert on October 25th starts at 7 pm in the Performing Arts Theatre and won’t last more than an hour.

“It’s a good opportunity to support our students here in the Orchestra Department, but particularly the Fine Arts Department, so we invite everybody to attend,” Harris said.
