The Life of LNHS Wrestlers

Wrestlers are more than popular guys beating each other up. It’s about the team and making you a better person. Also, wrestling is a huge mental sport because you have to judge what the opponent is going to do before he does it, and you have to think of a counter move all in a matter of seconds.

“It’s a mental challenge because you have to cut weight and It’s a physical challenge because you have to use all of your muscles,” sophomore Isaiah Stenner said.

Wrestling is also really challenging because you have to have certain strengths in order to beat the competitor, and perfect timing.

“I practice 4 hours a day, 28 hours a week and any free time in between I’m working out my arms, abs, and leg muscles. I normally don’t have time for homework so I’m up till midnight to one in the morning and I do the rest at school,” freshman Vincent Restivo said.

Weight is also a huge factor in wrestling, some days you have to eat nonstop, some days you have to physically starve yourself to pass the monthly weight check, to put you in a division with other people who weigh the same as you, that way it’s an even match.

“This week I had to not eat for 3 days. The only thing I can have is a protein bar in the middle of the day to at least keep me going, and a ton of water. I’m so excited for next week so I can eat till I can’t move!” sophomore Kolin Thee said.
