This past weekend the Lady Eagles softball team competed in their third annual September Smash tournament. The girls went 4-1 on the weekend finishing first in the silver bracket. They played Smithville in the championship winning 4-3.

“The game against Smithville didn’t start out the best. We were down by three going into the bottom of the third. Fortunately we started hitting well and scored four runs, which was enough to get the win before the rain came”, sophomore Hayden Simmons said.

The girls weekend consisted of two run rules on Friday against both Pleasant Hill and Nixa. The two games were a series of multi hits and little errors. They also picked up the win against Webster Grove with a score of 7-1. Their one loss was to Eureka High School.

“We played really well this weekend overall. Our pitching was a lot better than it has been and so was our defense. We made the routine plays and came through with big hits when they were needed”, sophomore Jayme Jackson said.

The Eagle’s season has not been as successful as those in the past, but after the display this weekend the team seems to be looking up. Their new record on the season is 12-8.

“The season started really good, but then we ran into a bit of a rough patch. This weekend was a glimpse of the team we know we can be so we hope this will be a turning point”, Junior Sage Lagud said.
