One of the biggest questions teenagers are faced with in high school is ‘what do you want to do with your life?’. While many students struggle to find their answer, some already know what they want to do.

“I want to go into either musical performance or education in my future, maybe both. Mostly in middle school I was set on being a band director. Now I’m kind of considering doing more flute performance or playing in an orchestra professionally,” junior Katie Moseley said.

Moseley is the first chair flute in the Liberty North band and plays in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra on the weekend.

“I started playing the flute when I was in sixth grade, like most band kids do. It was really hard for me at first because I hadn’t really had any experience playing any musical instruments before. I started practicing for two hours after school everyday and I started getting better. In seventh and eighth grade I realized that was what I wanted to do. I’ve been playing for five, almost six years now,” Moseley said.

The time and effort Moseley has put into her music have allowed her to participate in advanced performances beyond Liberty North.

“I’ve made all district band every year since eighth grade. This year is actually the first year that I’ve made first chair in the all-district band. I made all-state band for the first time this year as third chair so that was pretty cool,” Moseley said.

Because of the contests and organizations Moseley participates in, her musical talent has been able to influence even those from other schools.

“Katie is amazing to play with. She’s so fun to be around and she inspires me every time I’m around her. Nobody comes close to her playing. It’s phenomenal,” Liberty High School Sophomore and Drum Major Abbie Bavuso said.
