Differences in Skin Care

Skin care has become prominent in today’s society. There are thousands of blogs and videos talking about the importance of skin care and certain products to use.

Skin care items differ depending on where they are purchased. There are “chemical” skin care items that use ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Chemical skin care is mostly sold at the drugstore or prescribed by a doctor. Because everyone’s skin is completely different finding products that work can be difficult. Reading the ingredients and researching some of them can be very beneficial to see if it would be helpful.  Many companies put alcohol in skin care which can be counterproductive unless it is used on very oily skin.

Places like Sephora tend to sell a mixture of chemical-based products and more natural ones, but there is a drastic price difference. Most of the time the price is reflected off the ingredients listed but sometimes paying more does not mean better quality. Reading reviews can help find people with similar skin types who have tried the product and whether it has worked for them or not.

Natural skin care is starting to gain popularity, it can still be difficult to find but more name brand stores are starting to sell those products. There is a lot of research on the different oils and ingredients that are used in natural skin care, and it can be easier to find what works. There are some options for it in the drugstore but it is most commonly found in natural grocery stores. Using natural skin care tends to be better for the planet but it also may not have the quick results ones with more chemicals tend to have.

There are millions of different combinations of skin care, but there are two products most people need to stick with using. A cleanser and a moisturizer are essential for the skin no matter the skin type, it is just about finding what works.  A cleanser is important to keep the skin on the face clean and to minimize the amount of “imperfections” like redness or blemishes. Moisturizer is very important in helping dry skin but also help oily skin regulate the amount of oil being produced.

There is not a right or wrong answer when it comes to skin care. Not everything works for everybody and different combinations of products work better than others. It is important to do research on products before buying them and ingredients to avoid depending on the skin type. Though media tries selling as many products as possible and shows models with perfect skin, it is still important to have confidence and to not stress about an “imperfection” that will not last.
