Kansas City Women’s Choir Director

After teaching music and directing for years around the Metropolitan area, Dr. Cindy Sheppard has returned to Liberty as the new head director for the Kansas City Women’s Choir.

Sheppard initially moved back to Liberty because she missed William Jewell, where she graduated, and Liberty, where her family is. Her colleague Dustin Cates encouraged her to apply for the opening position as director and was thrilled when she received it. As director, Shepphard chooses the music herself and plans the upcoming music. Two upcoming events are in January and April, which she and her choir have been preparing for.

There are currently around 100 members in the choir. The singers travel anywhere from Sedalia to Warrensburg just to be able to make rehearsals in preparation for the upcoming concerts. Despite the long drive for many, the group meets at Country Club Congregational United Church of Christ, a good half-way meeting point for many.

Kathy Dunn, colleague and fellow board member of the Women’s choir, seems to think Sheppard is a great addition to the board. She claims Shepphard has many new ideas that will not only improve the choir as a whole, but will be beneficial in communicating and supporting ideas based on equality and even social issues.
After much preparation and many hours creating set plans for the choir, Dr. Cindy Sheppard will step into the position of head choir director, leading women from across the area into a successful year of singing.
