More Than An Audience

207 thousand Twitter followers, 138 thousand Youtube subscribers, and two million Google plus followers makes up Greg Miller’s fan base, but to him it is not just an audience to present to, it’s his family.

“Sure, I have two million followers on google plus, but who really cares, between my two channels I have 8,000 people that pay just to hear and see me,” internet icon Greg Miller said.”But as they continue watching your videos they start to know you and aren’t just fans anymore; your audience becomes your community.”

During the middle of his career Miller was growing more popular and realized the recognition he was receiving, the way he treated fans and wanted to know the real them shows the importance of his community to him.

“My friend asks if I wanted to grab a drink with a relatively new group of internet icons like myself. They acted like robotic characters more than themselves,” Miller said. “Eventually they slipped up and mentioned about a previous divorce of mine which caught me off guard and would only be known by a regular viewer of my videos. I realized they were already a part of our community and we became close friends fast once their walls came down.”

Greg describes himself as a show and tell kind of person who invites the world into his personal life, so when he went through his battle with cancer his community went through it right along side him.

“I would say the thing that had the biggest impact on my career was my battle with cancer. I tried to play it off like cancer wasn’t a big and scary thing but through my videos and podcasts my viewers saw how serious it was,” Miller said. “They could understand, and they pointed out the seriousness of my condition and showed me how to see the true effects of cancer.”
