For math teacher Sean Lawler, it takes time and practice to get to your dream job. For a majority of wrestlers, they don’t make the pro’s. Lawler is a fourth year teacher with Liberty Public schools. He is from a small town in Nebraska called Oakland.

“Learning technique and condition skills is some of the stuff we teach in wrestling. The number 1 skill to learn is to be resilient. Skills are the main key in wrestling,” Lawler said.

Lawler originally coached in Palmyra, Nebraska. Lawler also played high school football and got a scholarship to Peru State.

“I then coached wrestling at Liberty North for two years,” Lawler said.

Lawler likes to coach to help kids learn new sports.

“First thing we teach is simple offenses like shooting and front head. Shooting and front head is one of the first things I was taught in high school,” Lawler said,

In high school Coach Lawler was involved with football and track. Lawler wrestled heavyweight in high school. He was also involved in student council, drama, choir, and OC club.

“While wrestling in high school,I have had some injuries like my rotator cuff tendon.. Injuries that people can also get ringworm, infantigo, and cauliflower earTorn ligaments, I have seen concussions, broken bones, and various skin diseases while coaching wrestling,”  Lawler said,

Lawler decided to coach because he wanted to help kids get involved in sports.

“My math teacher inspired me to coach wrestling,” Sean Lawler said,

Lawler still coaches today and plans to keep coaching for a while.
