Different individuals valuing each other regardless of skin, intellect, talent, or years: This is the best definition of the word diversity and the best way to show what the Diversity Council does for the school.

“Our main goal is to create a family environment among our members, and to spread awareness and understanding of diversity to the non-diverse Liberty,” senior Haley Barbour said.

Barbour is the President of Diversity Council. She believes that bringing diversity into Liberty North would greatly benefit the school as a whole.

The club does many projects throughout the year to spread diversity. One of many is the annual diversity week. They are now in the process of planning this week, which will be held in the spring. It will consist of spreading awareness for various races and ethnicities within the school.

“I am really excited about the upcoming field trip we’re taking. It will focus on Latin culture so we’re going to the Latin Culture Center downtown,” sophomore Luce Apollon said.

Diversity club meets once a week before school to discuss issues and do activites.

“My favorite part is how we do activites and talk about different race issues that go on. We also play a really fun game called cross the line that makes you step out of your comfort zone,” sophomore Marielle Randle said.

This year Diversity Club has held the Minority Focus Dinner, helped at Pomp it Up Night, planned two field trips, and had a lock-in.

Diversity Council represents acceptance of all cultures, races and individuals by striving for academic success. The council strives to educate, support, and better the community and themselves on a daily basis.
